If you’re wondering how, exactly, Amber and Ryan could have conceived a child while he was laid up in the hospital on “Parenthood,” don’t expect Matt Lauria to spell it out for you.
“I don’t think I should be the one to explain, physiologically, how it works,” he says when questioned about the logistics of their whole situation.
The moment between the two characters was just a true expression of their feelings. “You don’t really have to understand every part about what drives the action behind this scene,” he tells Zap2it. “This, at an essential level, is about two people who care immensely about one another being present with each other. And that’s what led to that ultimate embrace. I think that may not have been the most planned interaction.”
Also not planned? The child Amber (Mae Whitman) is currently expecting. Lauria says that Ryan’s reaction to the news when he returns to the show on Thursday (Oct. 9) won’t be what you think.
“I think the reaction will be somewhat unexpected,” he says. "I think that what people can expect is to see these two people who have this very complicated and loving history working against imposed odds to make it work. I think that definitively Ryan and Amber’s relationship has been, ‘We love each other so much; how do we overcome these unavoidable, un-ignorable obstacles?’"
While you’ll have to wait and see how the situation plays out, Lauria says the reunion between the two characters is a very intense moment: “I will say it’s a doozy, this episode coming up, with them seeing each other for the first time in a while — since the hospital. It is definitely a pretty charged moment.”
